BBD Debate: Cities of the Future

BBD Debate: Cities of the Future

On Tuesday the 22nd of November from 19:30 till 21:00 the debate will take place in the Blauwe Zaal (Auditorium), with the theme; “Cities of the Future”. This debate is organized in collaboration with Studium Generale. You can receive a Studium Generale point for joining this activity.

By 2050, 68% of the world population will live in urban areas. This creates a huge challenge, because how do we accommodate this increase? How will we get around? And how do we maintain a good quality of life? One thing is certain: cities will have to change.
There are endless ways in which cities can adapt to a growing population. They can expand or densify, build different types of homes, favour certain forms of transportation over others… In this debate, professionals from different fields of work will share their views on best strategies and best practices for growing cities. The city of Eindhoven will form the starting point for a discussion about the future of cities and the most pressing challenges for urban mobility.

Thom Aussems has been director of corporation Sint Trudo from 1995 until 2018. Transformation of cities is a focal point in his career. He has published extensively on this topic, including ‘the ultimate book about the history of Eindhoven’.
Verali von Meijenfeldt holds a master’s in urban design from TU Delft and is City Executive of Amsterdam at leading design and consultancy firm Arcadis.
Wouter de Wit works in Deloitte’s Real Estate and Healthy Cities practice and is a member of Deloitte’s multidisciplinary Future of Mobility core team.
He focuses on urban and transport planning, (smart) city development, capital projects including (air)port advisory, impact analysis and strategy development.
The discussion will be moderated by Jan Willem Wesselink (NPO Radio 1).
